About
Big Sioux Recreation Area is a 270-acre park located on the south-west edge of Hawarden, Iowa. The park features 90 acres of surface water and various habitats, including prairie, forest, and wetland. It offers 35 campsites with electrical and water service, with a dozen sites having sewer available. The park also features a swimming beach, canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards for rent, as well as fishing opportunities for species like Bluegill, Catfish, Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Perch, Smallmouth Bass, and Walleye. Visitors can enjoy activities like biking, boating, camping, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, and more. The park is open daily from 7 am- 10:30 pm and requires an entrance fee, with annual passes available for $20 per vehicle.
