Big Creek Lakes Campground is a popular, scenic destination located in Routt National Forest at 9,000 feet elevation in the heart of the Rocky Mountains of northern Colorado. The campground sits adjacent to Big Creek Lake, Colorado's second largest natural lake, and offers 54 total campsites (24 reservable and 30 first-come, first-served) surrounded by lodgepole pine and fir trees. Visitors can enjoy excellent fishing for trout, muskie, grayling, and Kokanee salmon, boating with designated motorized and non-motorized sections, hiking in the Mount Zirkel Wilderness, and abundant wildlife viewing opportunities including moose, elk, black bears, and mule deer. The campground provides two boat ramps, vault toilets, and a horse corral for equestrian use, making it an ideal base for outdoor recreation in the surrounding national forests and grasslands.
