Acorn Valley Campground is located on the 26,000-acre Saylorsville Lake Project, which stretches over 50 miles up the Des Moines River Valley. This 26-acre campground sits on the fringe of an upland timber stand, featuring mature Bur Oaks at its entrance. The lake provides abundant recreational opportunities including camping, boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, biking, and hunting. The campground offers a variety of site options and is well-positioned for accessing the 24-mile Neal Smith Trail, a National Recreation Trail connecting Des Moines to Big Creek State Park. Wildlife is abundant throughout the area, with white-tailed deer, turkeys, pheasants, and waterfowl commonly seen. The lake is known for excellent fishing with walleye, wiper, largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, and northern pike.
